Armenia Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund started its operation since November 2005. It implements grant and credit projects targeted at the development of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy sectors in Armenia.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR UHP

The Government of the Republic of Armenia and the World Bank are cooperating to alleviate poverty and to achieve a sustainable economic growth in the Republic of Armenia. To accomplish these tasks, World Bank is proving the grant and low-cost financing for developing development strategies, obtaining expert analysis and implementing specific projects and programs. Within this framework, Urban Heating Project  will be executed by the Renewable Resource and Energy Efficiency Fund. Moreover, the project supports measures for environmental improvement at the local level through introduction of affordable and environmentally friendly heating alternatives.
The Environmental Management Plan  for the UHP summarizes the recommended design measures, construction supervision methods and monitoring actions. EMP identifies potential environmental impacts related to construction and/or rehabilitation of heat supply infrastructures, with the necessary gas and heating pipelines and boiler houses.  The project will achieve this objective by removing barriers and creating market conditions for the commercial provision of heating services, stimulating creation and effective functioning of self-regulating community organizations, and promoting decentralized efficient gas-fired boilers, heaters and equipment to meter and control heat consumption.
The environmental protection process aimed at identifying, preventing and mitigating adverse impacts of planned perspective activities on human health, environment, sustainable economic and social development.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR REP

As a part of this effort, the World Bank is proving the IDA credit and GEF grant to finance the Renewable Energy Project (REP), which  is executed by the R2E2 Fund. The objective of the proposed Renewable Energy Project is to increase the share of privately owned and operated power generation utilizing renewable energy.
The Environmental Management Plan for the REP summarizes the recommended design measures, construction supervision methods and monitoring actions to minimize and/or avoid the potential short- and long-term as well as the cumulative impacts of activities financed under the Project. Environmental Management Plan of Renewable Energy Project in the stage of selection of perspective platforms of SHPPs and WPPs. EMP identifies potential environmental impacts related to construction and/or rehabilitation of small hydro-power plants and wind turbine.  It was underlined that as a result of construction and operation of small HPPs (SHPP) and wind power plants (WPP) the inevitable negative impact on the environment has a limited character and comparatively low level. It was pointed out that this issue is most important from the point of view of biodiversity and has also global importance especially now, that the Republic of Armenia has ratified the respective convention and implements projects for biodiversity protection.
